quick note: the title above should be a link to another article~
so apparently more and more korean celebrities are getting caught using drugs at clubs.. but since they're celebrities, they probably won't get more than a slap on the wrist. model-turned-actor joo ji-hoon was arrested for drug trafficking back in april and even though he should have been heavily punished (according to south korean law), he was only given a figurative slap on the wrist. so what's that all about? shouldn't public figures receive as much punishment as us? since they're in the public eye, wouldn't their sentences serve as a deterrence to everyday people? i just don't understand how the government (any government, really) turns a blind eye to the rich and famous but goes out of its way to punish others. everyone should be treated equal under the law. i think that's the reason why arresting such non-violent offenders doesn't really serve a purpose.
so what do you think: is it okay for celebrities to be treated differently when it comes to illegal activities?

They should get double the punishment for being beautiful. slap them hard. pow
ReplyDeletedoesn't matter if you are celebrity. they should get the same punishment as everyone else!
ReplyDeletethey should get punished for what they are caught for, the same punishment as normal people get, i mean come on ... just because you are famous and rich doesn`t mean you can slide your way out. think about it this way some actors, actresses and singers say that they aren't anything special they are just normal people like you and me, wouldn't that apply to everything then? if your normal then you will be treated like normal
ReplyDeleteSeems to be a classic case of the hierarchy of the law. As you make more money/become famous, you start to bend the law or get away more often. It's definetly unjust to give special treatment.
ReplyDeleteporno weed . have you heard of it. it's smexy
ReplyDeleteCelebrities get away because they got the money. Money gets them out of bail or a great lawyer. Money solves these kind of problems but still keeps drugs on the top of the list. It is wrong for one to be pardoned for their crimes based on status. But then again, they rose to that status and require more security than others. If they are going to let celebrities go freely then others should get that right too. Ethics plays the major role in this game and sometimes it can't win against money.
ReplyDeleteIt's all just a game. Money makes the world go 'round and it doesn't matter if you break the law or not. If you have the money or connections to make your problems go away, then you can get away with almost anything. What about when Nicole Richie got arrested for driving while high (or whatever she was)? She was given a short sentence as it was but on top of that, she only served like a few minutes of her sentence before they let her out due to "overcrowding". Celebrities don't have the right to be treated differently from us but they will be whether we like it or not. It's just a sad fact of life.
ReplyDeleteIt isn't justice unless it's applied to every one the same way.
ReplyDeletedon't hate me ...
ReplyDeleteFamous and rich people ... when they do get caught with drugs or what not ...they pay their way out... imagine .. if you could pay ur out of jail wouldnt u take it... imagine yourself in the celebrities shoes
if you had money... how will you be corrupted... you would prob be acting reckless... and pay your way out of jail and what not...
and famous or rich or not... they are people.. everyone makes mistakes ... in their case they have the money to wiggle free..
yeah but we don't have the money to and even if we did, money should not be an exchange for justice. anyone with money (not just celebrities) shouldn't be allowed to do whatever they want just cuz they can pay to get out of it otherwise there would be no point for a justice system but that's how things are right now. the poor get jailed while the rich roam free.. it's just not fair
ReplyDeleteif you have the money to get out of your problems, why not? isn't that what money's for?
ReplyDeleteLets face it, celebs have the easy life
ReplyDeleteYes it's unfair for them to merely just get a slap on the wrist, but its not only in Korea, it happens so often here in America (i.e lindsay lohan)
I think they should get equal punishment that everyone else would get. Since theyre always in the spotlight, and they have so many young people looking up to them, if they do something wrong like using drugs, they should get a fair punishment, so the kids looking up to them will realize that it was something BAD and not acceptable. If celebs keep getting off the hook, kids and young adults will have a mind set that they wont get into big trouble for using drugs either.
hahaha i agree with the first comment!!! but seriously, i agree with the person before me. celebs who get off easy fuel the fire for impressionable kids to do the same. unfortunately, those kids face a much worse fate if they're caught. it's a shame really.
